One of the earliest Pakistani drama I had stumbled upon was 'Suno Chanda'. To describe it in a sentence, it's a breath of fresh air! It's not your typical soap opera filled with unnecessary angst and drama; instead, it's a lighthearted and fun series that tells the story of two cousins, Arsal and Ajiya, who unexpectedly find themselves married.
While the arranged marriage trope might seem cliche, the way Suno Chanda handles it is anything but amazing. Arsal and Ajiya are both relatable characters, each with their own quirks and personalities. Arsal is the charming and playful one, always getting into humorous situations, while Ajiya aka Jiya is the grounded and sensible voice of reason who is mischievous in her own ways. Their dynamic is the highlight of the show, filled with witty banter, playful teasing, and a genuine love that slowly blossoms between them.
But what I like the most is that the show isn't just about the main couple. The supporting cast is equally entertaining, particularly Arsal's flamboyant mother, Shahana and Jiya's brother Daniyal. They add a touch of humor and drama to every scene, making the show even more engaging.
What I also appreciate about Suno Chanda is how it seamlessly blends humor with important social issues. The series touches upon topics like gender equality and the importance of education, with Jiya's character serving as a strong example of a young woman who challenges societal expectations and pursues her dreams.
Another aspect I enjoyed is the series' portrayal of Pakistani culture and traditions. From the vibrant wedding ceremonies to the emphasis on family and community, Suno Chanda offered a glimpse into a rich and diverse society. The use of Punjabi dialogues added a layer of authenticity and charm, making the characters and their relationships even more believable.
Suno Chanda is more than just a lighthearted rom-com; it's a heartwarming story about love, family, and friendship. It's filled with humor, charm, and just the right amount of drama to keep you hooked. It also has two of the sweetest OSTs and will totally touch your heart!!
So if you're looking for a show that will leave you with a smile on your face, 'Suno Chanda' is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
